Abd ar-Rahman III an-Nasir
(an-Nasir al-Umawi) (891 - 961)

Arab Ruler & Caliph of Andalusia (929 - 961).

Hereditary Prince of Cordoba (912->), he became the greatest ruler of the Umayyad Arab dynasty in Spain and Morocco. He fought against the Fatamid dynasty and Christian rulers of Leon and Navarre, capturing both Toledo and Seville.

Unusual for a ruler of his times, he promoted toleration for both Christians and Jews. During his reign, Andalusian architecture, arts and sciences flourished.

"For my part, I adhere to the maxim of antiquity: The throne is a glorious sepulchre."
