Tancred de Hauteville "the Elder"

A minor noble from the village of Hauteville-la-Guichard. He was a petty provincial baron; a commander of a modest group of ten knights in the militia of Robert, Duke of Normandy.

His claim to fame was he was the father of an adventurous band of sons.

From his first marriage to Muriella, he was the father of William, Drogo, Humphrey, Geoffrey and Serlo.

From his second marriage to Fressenda, he was the father of Robert Guiscard, Mauger, William, Aubrey, Tancred, Humbert, Roger, and three daughters.
